Which Oneworld Programme Should You Credit Your Flights To? (2026 Guide)
Avios Strategy
Which Programme Should You Credit To?
BA Executive Club, Iberia Plus, Qatar Privilege Club, and Finnair Plus all share the Avios currency — but earning rates differ by carrier and cabin. Credit the wrong programme and you could lose 30–50% of your Avios.
⚡ The golden rule: always credit to the operating carrier's own programme first — own-metal rates are always higher than partner rates. Use our Avios Earning Calculator to compare exact Avios for your flight.
Why Crediting Programme Choice Matters
Since British Airways, Iberia, Qatar Airways, and Finnair merged their loyalty currencies onto the shared Avios platform, many travellers assume earning rates are identical regardless of which programme they use. They are not.
Each programme publishes its own earning tables using different percentages of miles flown for the same flight. A Business class Doha–London Heathrow flight can earn anywhere from 125% to 150% of route miles depending on the programme you choose.
The difference compounds quickly: on a 3,500-mile route in Business class, that gap means the difference between 4,375 and 5,250 Avios — an 875-Avios swing on a single sector.
The Four Shared-Avios Programmes at a Glance
BA Executive Club
The largest Avios programme. Excellent for British Airways own-metal flights and the widest partner earning network across oneworld and beyond.
Best for: BA flights, credit card earning (UK)
Iberia Plus
Higher earning rates on Iberia metal and Vueling. Iberia's transatlantic award fees are notably lower than BA's — a structural advantage for long-haul redemptions.
Best for: Iberia, Vueling, low-fee transatlantic awards
Qatar Privilege Club
Issues Avios on Qatar own-metal at the highest own-carrier rates. QSuite Business class redemptions via partner programmes consistently deliver 5p+ per Avios.
Best for: Qatar Airways flights, Doha hub connections
Finnair Plus
Joined the shared Avios platform, making HEL-hub connections and Nordic routes accumulate Avios directly. Strong for frequent flyers in Northern Europe and on Asian routes via Helsinki.
Best for: Finnair flights, HEL hub connections

The Tier Points Dimension
Avios earning is only half the equation. Tier points — the currency that unlocks Silver, Gold, and Emerald status — are only awarded by the programme you credit to. They do not cross between programmes.
If you are chasing elite status (BA Gold, Iberia Platinum, Qatar Gold), credit all eligible flights to that single programme. Splitting credits across programmes is the most common mistake frequent flyers make — tier points earned with one programme are lost to the others.
When Avios earning rates are equal across programmes, always credit to the programme where tier points are most valuable to you — the marginal Avios difference is almost never worth sacrificing status progress.

Can I credit a flight to any oneworld programme regardless of which airline I fly?▾
Generally yes — all oneworld member airlines accept credits from partner programmes. However, earning rates differ, and some discounted fare classes may not be eligible for partner crediting at all. Always check the specific programme's earning tables before flying.
Are Avios from BA Executive Club and Iberia Plus the same?▾
Yes. All four programmes (BA, Iberia, Qatar, Finnair) share the same Avios currency and you can transfer freely between them at a 1:1 rate. However, tier points — the status currency — do not transfer between programmes under any circumstances.
Is it worth splitting credits between two programmes?▾
Almost never. The marginal Avios gain from switching programmes on individual flights is almost always less valuable than consolidating tier points toward elite status in a single programme. The exception: if you have already secured your status target and are purely accumulating Avios for a specific redemption in a different programme.
